• A synthetic monofilament absorbable suture
• This suture is indicated for the retention in contact or for the approximation of soft tissues excluding cardiovascular tissues and tissues of the central nervous system
• Its use is not indicated in ophthalmological and microsurgical procedures implantation of the synthetic absorbable surgical suture MONOCRYL initially causes a minimal local inflammation of the tissues, characteristic of the foreign body reaction, followed by the corresponding local growth of fibrous connective tissue
• This is followed by a gradual loss of strength and mass of the suture due to its absorption by the process of hydrolysis in which the suture is metabolized into adipic acid which is finally absorbed and completely metabolized in the tissues
• During the absorption of the MONOCRYL suture, a loss of its strength is initially observed without a significant loss of its mass
• The suture has 50-60% residual strength after one week and up to 20-30% by the end of the second week
• Suture absorption is complete in 90 to 119 days A
• ll of the initial strength of the suture is lost within 28 days
