The test is designed to detect Group A Streptococcus antigen.
Group A Streptococcus is one of the leading causes of upper respiratory tract infections, such as tonsillitis, pharyngitis, and scarlet fever. Early diagnosis and treatment help reduce the severity of symptoms and complications, such as glomerulonephritis and rheumatic fever.
Conventional methods used for the identification of Group A Streptococcus include isolation and subsequent identification of the organisms, which can take 24-48 hours to complete.
The Group A Streptococcus diagnostic test directly detects Group A Streptococcus in throat swabs. The test analysis is based on the detection of bacterial antigens and can detect Group A Streptococcus that may not grow in cell culture.
